Did you know that your personal tax account (PTA) can prove hugely beneficial? Not only is it a useful source of information detailing your personal tax position, but it also allows you to communicate quickly and easily with HMRC.

Features Of Your PTA

Through your account, you can check your PAYE code, update any estimated aspects of your code and view your annual tax summary. It also contains the complete national insurance record for your adult life, enabling you to check for gaps.

Not only this, but by clicking the ‘state pension’ button, you can see a forecast of the value of your pension and when you can draw it. Should you claim tax credits or child benefits, you can also use your PTA to inform HMRC of any claims changes.

To ensure that you keep on top of important documentation, be sure to check your message section, where HMRC will send reminders to complete tax returns and other notices.

How To Access Your PTA

To access your PTA, head over to gov.uk/personal-tax-account and click the green button. You will need to set up a Government Gateway ID, for which you will require one of the following documents:

  • UK passport
  • Payslips or P60 form
  • Self-assessment tax return
  • Northern Irish driving licence
  • Tax credit details

It is vital to keep in mind that your Government Gateway ID details should be kept confidential and never given to anyone, as they can be used to make fraudulent claims in your name. As your tax agent, we are also unable to access your PTA.
